F.W. Murnau is best known for “Nosferatu”, but in 1926, he adapted Goethe’s “Faust” for silent film. It was ambitious, obsessive, and expensive — one of the most elaborate silent films ever made.

Last year, Nic Stott and I played music to Faust at NYP. I think some of you remember. In a relatively new move, I had written themes for us to work with and we spent some time finding out how to put this movie together. It paid off. We played the movie twice that night, and I think we hit a new level of true movie-watching drama.

June 12, Modern Robot is releasing an album of this show, or more precisely, a USB drive called “At the Crossroads”. This stylish enclosure will have a movie of our Faust, convenient mp3 files, FLAC audio for the hi-fi listening, and all sorts of interesting extras.

For this release, we are going to perform “Faust” at the Crown at Carolina Theatre! Using their wall-sized screen is going to make this a spectacular show.

This show also marks the 5th anniversary of Modern Robot movies and our 50th performance! We’re planning some exciting stuff for this night, so stay tuned.
